NEW DELHI: In a bid to create a more transparent setting for awarding sports and money awards to deserving athletes, the sports ministry on Thursday constituted a six-member committee to study the other award schemes.
The committee, headed by way of Justice (retd.) Indermeet Kaur Kochhar, will basically evaluation the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award, Arjuna Awards, Dronacharya Awards, Dhyan Chand Awards, Rashtriya Khel Ratna Protsahan Puruskar and Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad Trophy and particular money awards to global medal winners and their coaches.
The other contributors of the committee are six-time Winter Olympian and luge superstar Shiva Keshavan, former superstar athlete Ashwini Nachappa, Mohandas Pai, Chief Editor of Times Digital Rajesh Kalra. The last member will be a Director or Deputy Secretary of the ministry.
The committee can alternate the schemes if required and can also build up and decrease the amount of the cash awards. It can also come to a decision the selection of awards being given out in step with yr.
The committee may even evaluation the eligibility and marks criteria of the sports awards. It can also counsel the inclusion of new global sports occasions which can be thought to be for the cash award scheme.
The committee has been asked to publish its report inside 10 days.
