MP takes back grant for SC community centre

PATIALA: Accusing the ruling Congress and the Patiala administration of being biased, city MP Dr Dharamvira Gandhi on Tuesday wrote to the state government to go back the Rs 12.5 lakh developmental grant he had sanctioned for development of a group centre for the scheduled caste group in Dhiru Nagar.


Gandhi had given the grant from his MP LAD fund to the Valmiki group over a month ago. However, the work stopped all over its initial level after some locals opposing it, allegedly on the behest of Congress leaders.


Manjit Singh, the president of Valmiki group in Dhiru Nagar, “The local Congress councillor from Ward 36 began opposing the undertaking and later he incited people to lift their voice towards it. We requested the PWD govt engineer and different higher authorities to appear into the topic however all in vain because the officials had been underneath political pressure.”


“I had written to the PWD govt engineer to go back the quantity of developmental grant as I might distribute the same for some other objective another way the grant will lapse if the election code of behavior comes into impact. The government is taking part in petty politics as they did not permit the undertaking to start while a local Congress councillor and employees saved opposing the undertaking after the construction work began in the area.”
