Mum cops to get e-cycles to patrol narrow lanes

MUMBAI: The police will soon get started the use of battery-operated bicycles to patrol town’s narrow bylanes and chase criminals. These e-bikes, which might be being examined, can duvet as much as 25-30km without pedalling and achieve sustained speeds of as much as 25 kmph. Police personnel will soon be educated to operate the patrolling bicycles. The battery will last 3 hours and then it wishes an hour-long fee.

A source informed TOI: “During patrolling, law enforcement officials can use it as a standard cycle and in an emergency, they may be able to switch to the battery. The concept is to chase criminals in lanes where motorcycles or four-wheelers can not enter.” These cycles are being equipped instead of motorcycles to chop air air pollution. “Also, if the cycle is pedalled with battery power, the velocity increases,” said a senior cop.

Joint commissioner of police (law & order) Deven Bharti showed the improvement. “The cycles can even lend a hand stay law enforcement officials fit,” he said.

Last December, the Punjab Police began a pilot project to undertake electric bicycles for patrolling streets. Experts said that internationally, law enforcement officials are identified to use bicycles for patrolling.
