Balasore/Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday laid the root stone for the Subarnarekha Port which is expected to return up close to Chaumukh, on the mouth of the Subarnarekha river in Balasore district.
The port, to be jointly evolved by means of the state executive and Tata Steel at an investment of Rs 5,000 crore, will generate employment opportunities for around 12,000 people. The port is expected to be completed in four years and is most probably to offer a major spice up to maritime actions within the state. After Dhamra and Gopalpur, this would be the third port project to be evolved by means of the state executive.
“Odisha is known for its wonderful maritime past. Subarnarekha Port would be the golden chapter within the infrastructure building of Odisha,” Naveen stated, whilst addressing the collection. Talking about the exploits by means of Odia sailors (Sadhaba Pua), Naveen stated his late father and former chief minister Biju Patnaik had taken a bold step to restore the maritime glory by means of beginning the Paradip Port, which is now a major port within the nation.
The executive has already provided 692 acres of land out of the entire requirement of 962 acres whilst Tata Steel will invest money for the project. Odisha to get income share from port operations.
The port’s preliminary shipment handling capacity will be of 25 mtpa, which can be expanded as much as 80 mtpa. The port may be prone to turn out to be useful for Tata Steel’s Jamshedpur plant.
“Subarnarekha, one of the greatest port in eastern India, will serve industries in Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and trans-border nations like Bangladesh, Nepal and others in South East Asia,” stated a government source.
It used to be in December 2006 that the state executive had signed MoU with Chennai-based Creative Port Development Private Limited (CPDPL) for building of the port. The work has now fallen on Tata Steel which has obtained majority stake in CPDPL. Though the Union ministry of environment and wooded area had accorded environment clearance to the proposed project in 2012, it hit a roadblock following objection from the defece ministry because it’s location used to be close to the integrated check vary at Chandipur in Balasore. The defence ministry in spite of everything cleared the proposal in 2017.
Besides laying the root stone for the port, Naveen inaugurated 33 initiatives value greater than Rs 400 crore, whilst laying foundation stones for 39 initiatives. The chief minister also laid the root for a fishing harbour at Chandipur which will receive advantages around 35,000 fishing households.
Naveen also addressed the regional conference of Biju Yuva Vahini at Balasore Police Line Ground. Earlier within the day, he inaugurated the Talasari Mohatsav.
