MUMBAI: After a four-year-old lady used to be found raped and murdered in Mahim on Thursday, the police arrested a homeless man who used to stay with his family close to the woman’s on the similar pavement on Friday.
The police zeroed in on Mehendi Hassan Gulam, 23, in dramatic style. After the crime, they had collected data and made a tentative sketch of the suspect. They then rounded up beggars, vagabonds and homeless from the world close to the St Michael’s Church on Lady Jamshedji street in Mahim, where the woman’s body used to be found, and a crew of officers have been wondering them at the Mahim police station. At this point, sniffer dogs pressed into the investigation led the police officers proper back to the police station, no longer once however twice, and started barking.
“When the sniffer dog twice reached the police station, we suspected the accused used to be a few of the 30-40 other folks we had rounded up,” said a senior police officer. They zeroed in on Mehendi, who confessed after sustained interrogation, said Ravindra Shisve, additional commissioner of police (central area). The accused does odd jobs for a residing.
The police said Mehendi, who stayed on the pavement close to the woman’s family with his wife and 3 children, said he continuously noticed the child bare and had begun to lust after her. On Wednesday night time, he picked up the woman, drowsing next to her parents and two siblings, took her about 100m away to a secluded position at the back of a building and raped her.
“He gagged her in order that she may just no longer scream or alert any one. Later, he feared the woman would simply identify him and so strangled her,” said Shisve. After the crime, Mehendi went back and slept with his family. When the woman’s mother came looking out early on Thursday, he even went together with her to the police station.
Mehendi has been arrested below the IPC sections for rape and murder, and below the Pocso Act. “We are attempting to figure out whether or not he has any crime file,” said Kailash Chavan, senior inspector of Mahim police.
The lady’s family came to town from rural Maharashtra continuously and bought vegetation, toys, balloons and different knick-knacks.
