Religious rituals in connection with Mahamastakabhisheka gets underway

DHARAMASTHALA: Religious rituals in reference to the anointment of the 39-feet tall monolith of Lord Bahubali at Ratnagiri of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala were given underway here on Saturday. Held as soon as every 12-year, that is the fourth such anointment of Lord Bahubali, with first anointment held in 1982. Devotees from different portions of the state and somewhere else started arriving at this domicile of Lord Manjunatha, which also hosts the monolith of Bhagwan Bahubali.

Panchamrutha abhisheka was offered to Lord Manjunatha, presiding deity of Sri Kshetra and Chandranatha Theerthankaras at Chandranatha Basadi. A procession of idols of the deity and the theerthankaras was taken from the Basadi to Ratnagiri. With musical band and chende gamers taking the lead, girls sporting kalashas and men chanting shlokas adopted. Senior Jain ascetics including Sagar Muni Maharaj, Vardhamana Muni Maharaj participated.



D Veerendra Heggade, dharmadhikari, Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala and his members of the family too had been a part of the procession. The Heggade members of the family welcomed the Jain munis and priests from Jain basadis of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi after the procession. Heggade and his members of the family carried out the thorana muhurata and other rituals for cleansing the area across the statue below the guidance of Sri Lalitakeerti Bhattaraka swamiji of Karkala Jain Math.



With the anointment rituals scheduled to get underway for three-days from February 16, the organizing committee has erected six storied scaffolding for the devotees to climb and carry out the mahamastakabhisheka. The fourth to 6th flooring of the scaffolding have openings for the devotees to perform the rituals. Lift facility too has been supplied. A two-storied viewer’s gallery flanking the statue has been set up to lend a hand other folks view the lawsuits.
