Snatching gang busted, items worth Rs 3L seized

PUNE: A gang of three men used to be busted on Friday for snatching 5 gold chains and stealing one motorbike within the Thergaon and Wakad areas within the ultimate two months.

The trio — Mohammed Arif Sayyad (28), Ayub Riasat Ali (25), each living at Kaspate Vasti and initially from Uttar Pradesh and Fahim Matin Siddiqui (24) of Dhule district — researched the chain-snatching modus on a video-sharing web page ahead of sporting out the acts.

The police recovered 100g of gold chains and two two-wheelers, jointly worth Rs3 lakh, from them.

The Wakad police group led via senior inspector Satish Mane took Sayyad and Ali into custody from Utkarsh Chowk in Wakad, whilst Siddiqui used to be picked-up from Dhule.

Sub-inspector Harish Mane stated the group’s kingpin, Mohammed Arif Sayyad, used to be running a glass fitting trade in Wakad , whilst Ali and Siddiqui had been running as labourers with him.

“They had bagged a freelance of glass fitting a few months back. But ahead of they could get started running on it, their contract used to be cancelled,” the officer stated.

The trio weren't getting every other contracts. “While surfing the internet, they got here throughout a chain-snatching video. They then made up our minds to make money via snatching gold chains.”

The suspects then studied more videos at the web page. “In December ultimate 12 months, they first struck at a weekly market in Wakad. They targeted girls popping out of the market with vegetable luggage of their fingers.”

They used Sayyad’s scooter to clutch the chains. “They snatched three gold chains in December ultimate 12 months,” the officer stated.


On January four, the suspects stole a motorcycle from the Wakad house and snatched two more gold chains. After snatching 5 chains, their accomplice Siddiqui returned to Dhule.


Senior inspector Satish Mane stated the suspects had saved the snatched gold chains in a secure position.


“They deliberate to sell it after snatching more chains. We arrested them ahead of they could sell the gold chains or rob more of them,” the officer stated, including that further investigation used to be on.
