Surat gets Digital India Award

Surat: Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has received silver award in open data champion category of Digital India Award of Government of India. The award used to be received through CY Bhatt, deputy commissioner, SMC from Ravi Shankar Prasad, Union minister of electronics and information era and legislation and Justice, in New Delhi on Friday .

More than 600 entries from around the country were received in 8 other categories for the Digital India Awards.


SMC had began its open data portal in October 2017 to provide IT-based products and services to voters. SMC provides online data concerning property tax, skilled tax, car tax, marriage registration, beginning and loss of life registration, census data etc. It is the only civic body within the country to release an open data portal in coordination with National Informatics Centre.
