3 weeks later, Kukrail flyover finally opens

LUCKNOW: The 6.5km six-lane Kukrail flyover that connects Khurramnagar with Gomtinagar in any case became operational on Wednesday, three weeks after it was inaugurated by means of Union home minister and Lucknow MP Rajnath Singh.

TOI had then highlighted how the flyover was inaugurated in a haste.


Despite the inauguration, the flyover was not opened after an inspection by means of Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) found fault in highway engineering at two spots — Khurramnagar from the place the flyover starts and Gomti barrage the place it ends. CRRI had directed PWD to construct roundabouts on the two places to test jam and injuries.


But PWD had mentioned that everlasting roundabouts could not be built in an instant owing to the enforcement of the model code of behavior for the Lok Sabha elections. However, now it has made temporary roundabouts and opened the road for the general public. Permanent construction shall be finished after elections, mentioned PWD officials.


The flyover has diminished go back and forth time between Khurramnagar and Gomtinagar from 45 minutes to 15 minutes.
