3 youths drowned in Ganga river, two rescued

KANPUR: Five youths, hailing from Sanigwan pocket, whilst taking a dip within the river Ganga, drowned on Thursday afternoon in Jajmau space of the town.


Five youths known as Rahul Kumar (19), Deepak (20), Rohit (21), Dhannu (25) and Shivam Mishra (23), all citizens of Sanigwan highway, went into deep river water whilst taking a dip at Jajmau Ganga bridge on Thursday afternoon and slipped into the water.


On listening to the cries of the youths, the locals and the divers jumped into the river to save lots of them. While Rahul and Deepak were pulled out to safety, Rohit, Dhannu and Shivam may now not be traced. Police were knowledgeable and a rescue group used to be pressed into motion.


Officials said that the spot where the youths slipped is somewhat deep and there used to be robust float of water. The police are assisting native divers in seek operation. The five youths after playing Holi had gone to Jajmau Ganga bridge, where they decided to take a dip in Ganga.


Jajmau Police out-post incharge Abdul Kalam said, "The youths were residents of Sanigwan road and their families have been informed about the incident. While two were rescued, the search operation to locate the three youngsters is underway."
