50% complaints on EC’s C-Vigil app found bogus

JAIPUR: Nearly 50% of the whole C-Vigil complaints registered with the election department through an app, to record model code of conduct violations (MCC), were discovered to be bogus with many complainants simply posting their selfies, photos in their properties, bedrooms, bogs, agricultural lands and different irrelevant photos.


According to the Election Commission knowledge, up to March 22, of the 176 cases registered, 84 (47.72%) were discovered to be bogus. Of the 84 false cases, 60 cases were dropped by means of the district keep an eye on centres (DCC) and 24 were dropped by means of the returning officers.

"When we come across bogus uploads like selfies, photos of houses and other irrelevant pictures, we call up the complainant and warn him/her not to post such things on the C-vigil app. We also make them aware about the app, that it is meant only for registering MCC violations," mentioned an IT officer at the administrative center of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO).


Another reliable mentioned: “After downloading the c-vigil app, some other people attempt to take a look at it by means of posting irrelevant photos and selfies. These are mostly anonymous individuals, who don’t supply their phone numbers. These cases are dropped.”


The violations registered through C-Vigil app range from distributing money, liquor, cash, influencing citizens through commercials, posters and hoardings, paid information, communal hate speech, intimidation, freebies distribution, faux information and the use of govt car after administrative center hours.
