AHMEDABAD: After the National Green Tribunal (NGT) ordered closure of ceramic devices that run on coal gasifiers, as many as 450 such devices in Morbi, India’s largest ceramic cluster, have closed right down to begin the process to switch over to herbal gas. '

Meanwhile, Gujarat Gas Limited (GGL) that provides herbal gas to Morbi ceramic business has already won several enquiries for gas connections. The state PSU has prolonged all the toughen to these devices to switch over to herbal gas.
Apart from the NGT crackdown, the Rs 40,000 crore robust ceramic business could also be going through a challenge with regard to procurement of key uncooked materials, which come with potash feldspar and soda feldspar.
According to business players, the ceramic devices used to procure those two key uncooked materials from Rajasthan in the form of chips, that have been later processed at Morbi and utilised for making vitrified tiles. However, the Rajasthan government has determined that those materials can also be equipped outside the state best in powder shape through banning provide of soda and potash feldspar chips outside state.
“Morbi has 33 processing vegetation that procure those uncooked materials as chips from Rajasthan and remove impurities to cause them to fit for vitrified tiles devices. These vegetation with cumulative investments can even close down in a few weeks as impurities in those uncooked materials can't be removed as soon as they are converted into powder,” Jetpariya added.
Rajasthan has no such vegetation to procedure and remove impurities from those uncooked materials.
“There are 250 vitrified tile devices in Morbi and more than 77 devices which can be engaged in making double-charged tiles, which might be adversely impacted through this determination,” added Mukesh Ughreja, president, Vitrified Tiles Division of MCA.
Tile makers are planning to challenge the neighbouring state’s determination in the Rajasthan high court.
“It has been double whammy for Morbi ceramic business. Around 550 devices in the area will stop to function in the subsequent 15 to 20 days. With closure of many vegetation, the production has already come down through 60% to 70%,” claimed Jetpariya.
