LUCKNOW: In a thrilling operation, customs officials stopped a Bangkok-bound flight quantity WE 334 on the tarmac mins ahead of its take-off from Amausi airport on Wednesday and nabbed four miscreants sporting foreign exchange worth Rs 1.76 crore illegally. The officials claimed it to be the largest foreign money seizure from the Lucknow airport ever.
“Acting on a tip-off, we had alerted all our units and started checking the hand luggage of passengers about to board the flights for the reason that information was not specific. Suddenly, one among our unit participants received specific enter about four passengers on Bangkok-bound flight quantity WE 334 sporting foreign exchange. We straight away alerted the involved government after which asked the staff of that flight to delay take-off for carrying out our operation,” stated deputy commissioner (customs) Niharika Lakha.
“We entered the flight and checked the four and recovered the foreign exchange from their ownership. They had stashed the foreign money in hand bags and pouches. The seized foreign exchange notes was in US Dollars, Saudi Arabian Riyal, Euro, and Japanese Yen,” Lakha added.
Among the four detained, 3 were from Kushinagar and one from Gorakhpur. They may not show any declaration documents of the foreign exchange on being asked to take action and were therefore detained, the reputable stated.
The foreign money was seized and a case registered. The four are being interrogated about the source of cash and goal of their talk over with to Bangkok, stated Lakha.
Sources aware about the probe stated that the four were minor players of a racket. “They were presented a free travel to Bangkok and were asked to hold cash and convey gold whilst returning,” they stated.
