Bhubaneswar: Senior leader Subash Chauhan, who resigned from BJP after being denied a price ticket for the Bargarh Lok Sabha seat, joined BJD on Wednesday in the presence of celebration president and leader minister Naveen Patnaik at the latter’s place of abode here.
Chauhan, known to be a Hindutva hardliner, resigned from BJP on Tuesday, saying he hostile the celebration’s taste of functioning. The go out of the 52-year-old leader forward of the polls will be a setback to the saffron celebration in Bargarh district, where he enjoys strong reinforce.
“I joined BJD after being inspired by the ideology and ease of our leader minister Naveen Patnaik,” he said, adding that he had joined the celebration with none stipulations.
Asked if he would battle the assembly and Lok Sabha elections on a BJD price ticket, Chauhan said he would not battle this 12 months’s polls. “I have been associated with organizational paintings and public service for greater than 30 years, I can continue to take action. My battle in opposition to injustice will even continue,” he said.
In the 2014 Lok Sabha election, Chauhan misplaced the Bargarh seat to BJD’s Prabhas Singh by a margin of 11,178 votes. He finished 2nd, receiving three,72,zero52 votes.
Though he was once a powerful contender for a BJP price ticket from Bargarh, the celebration nominated its nationwide secretary Suresh Pujari, who unsuccessfully contested the previous polls from the neighbouring Sambalpur seat. Though BJP appointed Chauhan vice-president of the state unit, he was once not mollified.
Chauhan, a former nationwide convener of Bajrang Dal and a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) pracharak, said in his resignation letter that the celebration was once being controlled by one leader. This is being read as a dig at Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
BJP state vice-president Samir Mohanty said although he was once individually hurt by Chauhan’s choice to sign up for BJD, it might not have an effect on the saffron celebration’s prospects in the polls.
