PUNE: The crime department of the Pune police has arrested a 40-year-old guy for stealing money and valuables from a scooter’s boot in Nana Peth.
The suspect, Baba Laxman Banpatte alias Subhash, would goal two-wheelers parked at malls, banks, markets and different such places. He used his ill-gotten cash to pad up his financial institution balance. Police have frozen one account that contained Rs4 lakh and are accumulating main points of some other account. They have also recovered a pc stolen from Sassoon General Hospital and Rs7,000 in money, crime department inspector Anjum Bagwan mentioned.
Police mentioned the suspect was in the past arrested in a case related to car robbery and was at the run after he was released on bail from Yerawada jail in 2015.
Banpatte would in moderation stake out the surroundings, ensuring there were no CCTV cameras or witnesses, earlier than stealing the valuables. His good fortune ran out 3 weeks ago, when a CCTV digital camera recorded him stealing Rs45,000 from a two-wheeler in Nana Peth.
The police known him during the footage and tracked him down, arresting him on March 13. He was remanded in police custody until Monday.
“He never used a key or broke the lock — he used his fingers to thieve valuables and not using a hint. His arrest helped us solve 12 circumstances,” assistant commissioner of police (crime II) Bhanupratap Barge mentioned.
