Creche staffer gets 10 yrs for infant’s assault

NAVI MUMBAI: More than two years after a Kharghar creche staffer was arrested for brutally assaulting a 10-month-old woman, the Alibaug district periods courtroom on Tuesday convicted her to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment. The convict, Afsana Shaikh, has been lodged at Kalyan prison since her arrest in 2016.

However, the courtroom acquitted Priyanka and Pravin Nikam, the owners of Purva Playschool and Nursery in Kharghar Sector-10 . They were booked below Section 75 of Juvenile Justice Act for kid cruelty.


The incident got here to mild after the baby’s parents noticed damage marks on her eye and her face swollen with blood clots. Suspecting that her daughter was overwhelmed in the creche, her mom enquired with Shaikh and Priyanka, who dismissed the matter saying the girl could have were given hurt whilst enjoying with toys. But the mummy was now not satisfied and filed a grievance at Kharghar police station. While checking the CCTV footage at the creche, the police found that on November 21, 2016, Shaikh slapped and banged the girl’s head at the flooring because she was crying. The toddler was handled for a slight fracture in the cranium and arm at Fortis Hospital in Vashi.


Additional public prosecutor Ashwini Bandivdekar Patil said, “The accused’s act was inhuman and the CCTV footage proved that Shaikh had banged the baby at the ground. She even put chilli powder in the toddler’s eyes. She was booked for attempt to murder and for inflicting grievous hurt below the related IPC sections. However, the Nikams were acquitted.” Lawyer Rushit Patel, who helped the girl’s parents struggle the legal struggle, said, “The parents are more likely to problem the creche owners’ acquittal in the high courtroom.”
