DHARWAD: The govt on Saturday ordered the suspension of seven officers of Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) for his or her alleged negligence and dereliction of accountability which ended in the crash of a four-storey under-constriction industrial complicated on Tuesday in Kumareshwar Nagar of Dharwad.
Urban building minister U T Khader who visited the building crash website online on Saturday introduced that according to the preliminary file, he had ordered the suspension of seven officers with rapid impact.

Town making plans officer Mukund Joshi, the city making plans cellular assistant director Ashok Gadag, zonal officer Prabhakar Doddmani, govt engineer V Sridhar, assistant govt engineer Chandrappa, the city making plans cellular deputy director B V Hiremath and assistant commissioner (zone-Three) Santosh Anishettar are those suspended pending inquiry.

Khader reviewed the rescue operation and stated that the federal government has taken the incident seriously and the regional commissioner has already ordered for a time-bound magisterial inquiry headed by the additional deputy commissioner. Prima facie, it appears that negligence by officers is among the causes for this disaster. After an in depth file, the federal government will initiate stern motion in opposition to officers taken with certifying the building.


Khader stated that officers across the state have been directed to check up on the stability of multi-storied structures in their jurisdiction and take measures for the safety of the folk. This apart, the federal government will successfully enforce the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016.


Water sources minister D K Shivakumar who too visited the crash website online on Saturday said that the federal government will come up with new measures to avoid such screw ups.


“This incident merits an in depth debate in the assembly and new acts should be framed to ensure protection of the folk. Several multi-storied structures are arising in metropolitan and two- tier cities and the function of civic our bodies is essential in certification. They cannot take a seat in AC rooms and grant certificate for structures. They should be held accountable if such screw ups happen,” he stated.


The govt will recommend introduction of issuing fitness certificate to multi-storied structures. Under this, officers should incessantly check up on structures which might be 50-years-old alongwith new structures. Such a device is followed in the Regional Transport Office to check the fitness of vehicles.
