Kartarpur, ICP: Declaration notified for land

CHANDIGARH: The Union ministry of street delivery and highways has issued the notification pronouncing to acquire 24 hectares land for construction of the Kartarpur hall street and 21 hectares for the integrated test post(ICP) alongside the border.

The hall is being constructed to facilitate Sikh pilgrims’ talk over with to Kartarpur Sahib gurdwara in Narowal inside of Pakistan – 4km from the international border in Dera Baba Nanak. The notification has been issued under phase 3-D of The National Highways Act, 1956. It reads, “The central executive hereby proclaims that on newsletter of this notification within the respectable gazette, the land specified within the stated Schedule shall vest absolutely within the central executive, unfastened from all encumbrances.” The notification carries names of all the landowners whose land is being bought in 4 villages — Chandu Nangal, Jaurian Khurd, Pakhoke Tahli Sahib and Dera Baba Nanak – of Gurdaspur district.

A central executive officer stated, “Now it's up to the Punjab executive to announce the award at the earliest after listening to the objections of the land owners so that the central executive can deposit the land compensation amount in landowners’ bank accounts at once.”

It used to be on January 21 that the Union ministry had issued the notification pointing out its intention to acquire the land for “development, widening or four-laning, upkeep, management and operation of the newly proposed project on the land stretch of Kartarpur Corridor from Km zero to Km 4.25 within the district Gurdaspur.” Whereas the notification pointing out the intention to acquire land for development of ICP alongside the Kartarpur Corridor used to be made on January 31.

Responding to the notification, the landowners had submitted their objections to the state executive.
