Man held for duping people on pretext of jobs

NEW DELHI: A 24-year-old guy was arrested for allegedly duping other people at the pretext of offering jobs in southeast Delhi, police said Saturday. Gautam Kashyap, a resident of Burari, was arrested on Thursday, they added.

He used to make calls to other people claiming to be a representative from a task offering web page and ask to switch money as facilitation and other fees for the process to his Paytm pockets, police said.

In October 2018, a 34-year-old call centre employee had reported that a gang of cheats fraudulently caused him to switch money at the pretext of a task offer, they said. And in the past 28 months, he has been cheated of Rs 9.five lakh by the accused individuals, said Chinmoy Biswal, deputy commissioner of police (southeast).

The victim had enrolled for a task exchange in more than a few online process portals in 2016 while he was operating within the call centre, he said.

Investigations revealed that money received by the accused in several Paytm wallets have been transferred from Paytm to a Kotak Mahindra Bank account.

The Paytm pockets and the bank account have been registered within the title of Kashyap, the officer said.

Kashyap labored at a call centre in Noida from 2013-16, which was owned by Vaibhav Mishra while Amar Singh was manager.

He along side his friends Mishra, Singh and Gagan Sharma run the syndicate, he said.


Vaibhav used to supply them details of process aspirants after which Kashyap and Sharma referred to as the goals claiming to be specialists of a few firm and asked for money to be transferred in Paytm or financial institution accounts to facilitate their jobs, the DCP said.


When this victim stopped making payments in 2018, Singh, along side his friends, instructed him that he would refund his complete quantity and made some fake paperwork of HDFC Life Insurance and the Reserve Bank of India, which have been sent to the victim and caused him to deposit more cash, he said.


The accused made a number of calls to the victim and at the pretext of joining fees, facilitation charges, refundable safety cheated him of Rs 9.five lakh, police said.


Efforts are directly to nab the friends of the accused, they said.
