New Zealand Mosque shooting: Father-son duo from Vadodara laid to rest

VADODARA: The father-son duo from town, Arif Vohra and son Rameez Vohra, who were among the 49 victims of terror attack on two mosques in Christchurch were laid to leisure in New Zealand on Friday.

The bodies were handed over to the family members through the local authorities after DNA assessments. In all 27 of the 49 deceased were identified on the foundation of DNA assessments. The duo was gunned down within the shooting at the Al Noor Mosque in Christchurch on March 15.


“Rameez’s parents-in-law and Arif’s brother went to New Zealand to complete the final rites after Friday prayers on March 22. Both were laid to leisure in Christchurch,” stated Arif’s cousin, Siddique Gandhi, adding that the family members are grateful to the New Zealand executive for their support.


“In New Zealand, voters have to pay NZ$ 2,500 for burial. But the New Zealand Prime Minister has promised to pay the quantity for all those that died within the March 15 terror attack,” Gandhi added.


Initial reviews had indicated that the duo was missing, however Arif’s brother who had rushed to Christchurch soon after the incident, showed that his brother and nephew had died within the terror attack. The Vohra circle of relatives lives in Dhanani Park within the Memon Colony area of Vadodara. Arif had long past to New Zealand about a month in the past along with his wife Rukhsana to visit Rameez, who had first shifted to New Zealand for higher studies a few years in the past after which settled in Christchurch.
