Official booked after two cows die at animal shelter

GORAKHPUR: An authentic of Basgaon Nagar Panchayat of the district was booked underneath Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act on Saturday after two cows died allegedly of starvation on the 'kanji house' (cowshed) run by means of the nagar panchayat, police said.

The animal shelter, in ward quantity two of Badawan locality of Bansgaon, properties 100 bovine. On Thursday, the locals were alerted by means of foul scent emanating from the cowshed. When they went there, they discovered carcasses of two cows. Angry locals staged a protest searching for motion towards the authentic involved.


Police said Santosh Singh, 'kar samharta adhikari' (tax collector) of the nagar panchayat, was booked on criticism of the locals who alleged that he had failed to discharge his duty of feeding the stray cows. The animals were left to die without the dignity of sentiments of Hindus, who deal with the animal as their mom, they further alleged.


SDM Bansgaon Arun Kumar Mishra said, "Two cows were found dead at the 'kanji house' on Thursday, triggering tension among the locals who sought immediate action. On the compliant of one Avinesh Singh, an FIR has been filed against Santosh Singh, an official of the nagar panchayat and probe has been launched into the matter."
