OLX fraud: 20 more complaints surface

MOHALI: Around 20 more complaints towards the gang of fraudsters who duped people on OLX by posing as militia officials have come to the fore.

Complainants from districts of Punjab and Haryana were drawing near the cyber cellular since three contributors of the gang were arrested more than per week again.


“We have received more 20 complaints with similar type of nature and modus operandi,” a senior police authentic stated. He stated the three accused right through interrogation printed names of seven accomplices. “They belong to Rajasthan and groups were sent to arrest them,” he stated.


Sources stated the gang first created pretend account on OLX and offered themselves as officials of militia to consumers. They also posted photos with uniform and identity of senior officials along with items they presented to sell. Later, they asked the consumers to deposit cash at their Paytm accounts. After getting the money, they used to disappear and switch off their cell phones.


On March 19, Mohali police had arrested the three fraudsters, Islam, Talim and Riaz, all residents of Jheel village in Bharatpur district of Rajasthan, and claimed to have solved 25 fraud instances price Rs eight lakh.


Police had registered a case below Sections 419 (punishment for dishonest by personation), 465 (punishment for forgery), 467 (forgery of valuable safety, will), 468 (forgery for purpose of dishonest), 471(the use of as genuine a cast file), 120-b (punishment of legal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 66D (punishment for dishonest by personation by the use of pc useful resource) of the IT Act on the Dhakoli police station.
