Ration dealers ask Kerala government to clear arrears

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The all India ration sellers' congress (AIRDC) has demanded the state govt to clear 'the arrears to the tune of around Rs 50 crore' due to ration sellers, and warned an indefinite strike from April 1 if the dues were not cleared straight away.

The dues include Rs 40 crore as 3 months' wages and Rs nine.five crore as fee of the provisions disbursed free of value to flood-affected folks six months in the past, AIRDC office-bearers stated. "The government must lift the treasury restrictions and clear the dues. Otherwise, we will go for an indefinite strike from April 1," stated AIRDC normal secretary Babychan Mukkodan.

"An amount of Rs 40,000-60,000 is due for each ration dealer," he stated, including that the sellers were facing serious financial crisis. "Another major issue the dealers are facing now is the price of kerosene. The government order mandates us to sell kerosene to card-holders at Rs 40 per litre, while we get it at a higher price of Rs 43," he stated.

Alleging huge corruption and black advertising and marketing through agents at the distribution centres, but even so poor quality of grains, and other provisions and anomalies in weighing, the AIRDC leaders stated the civil provides department will have to take the accountability in ensuring correct quantity and quality. tnn
