Supreme Court gives Gujarat 2 weeks to finish Bilkis proceedings

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Friday gave two weeks to the Gujarat government to complete disciplinary court cases towards erring officers, together with policemen, who had been indicted through the prime courtroom for botching up the Bilkis Bano gang rape case in a bid to protect the accused.


The incident took place all the way through the 2002 post-Godhra communal riots.


Solicitor normal Tushar Mehta informed the courtroom the state was once ready to provide Rs 5 lakh to Bilkis as compensation. Appearing for Bilkis, advocate Shobha rejected the offer and mentioned this was once a have compatibility case for awarding exemplary compensation because the rape survivor had led a nomadic lifestyles since 2002 and was once denied justice for years.


A bench led through CJI Ranjan Gogoi mentioned, "We adjourn the matter for two weeks. On the next date, the orders passed in the disciplinary proceedings be placed before the court".
