JAMMU: Three masked terrorists shot a military deserter dead in front of his house at Pingleena village in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday afternoon. The terrorists mistook him for a military regular, intelligence sources stated.
Showkat Ahmad Naik, 25 -- a military recruit who had left his training after 8 months and used to be declared a deserter -- used to be rushed to a close-by sanatorium where he used to be declared brought dead, police stated.
Army spokesperson Rajesh Kalia stated Naik had enrolled with Territorial Army on January 15 remaining year. He went on leave on September 14 and didn’t return. He used to be declared a deserter on September 17 remaining year. Kalia stated Naik never took the oath as a soldier.
Soon after the murder, a joint workforce of army and special operations team (SOG) of J&Ok police introduced a cordon-and-search operation in the area to nab the terrorists.
Naik is survived via a sister, mom and mentally-challenged father.
