TN: Six men arrested for robbing man of Rs 98L

CHENNAI: Two weeks after a bunch of guys posing as police bundled a man off an MTC bus and robbed him of Rs 98 lakh, the Kilpauk police have arrested six other people and seized round Rs 30 lakh from them.

The accused have been known as Kalandar, Shadiq, Vinoth, Ramkumar, Ravikumar, and Raji. Kalandar is a native of Ramanathapuram whilst the others are locals.

Police stated it was once Shadiq, the victim’s colleague, who knowledgeable Kalandar, who was once staying at a lodge in the city, about money being transferred on a bus. Kalandar, in flip, hatched the plan with the others to rob the passenger.


Except Shadiq, the others have identical felony cases pending against them. Their modus operandi is to pose as police and intercept men sporting massive amounts of cash.


Based on a tip, a police crew rushed to the city airport and arrested the suspects on Tuesday.


The incident took place at the night time of March 9 when Gopinath of Thanjavur was once on his way to the mofussil bus terminus in an MTC bus with the cash to hand over to his uncle Kannan in Trichy. A three-member gang, claiming to be policemen, boarded the bus at the Taylor’s Road bus forestall and hand-cuffed Gopinath for sporting money without documents. They took him in a automobile and left him at Vandalur earlier than escaping with the cash.
