WASHINGTON: President Donald Trump's former campaign chief Paul Manafort, already going through 47 months in jail for tax and bank fraud, used to be sentenced to an extra 43 months in jail Wednesday on conspiracy fees.
"The defendant is not public enemy number one," US District Court Judge Amy Berman Jackson mentioned in handing over the sentence in a hushed court.
"But he is not a victim either," Jackson mentioned, adding that the veteran Republican lobbyist had proven little regret and had lied again and again.
Manafort's case is the highest-profile yet stemming from Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian interference within the 2016 presidential election.
