THANE: Mumbra police have booked a lady doctor, who has a point in Unani drugs, on charges of a botched-up abortion ensuing in the death of a lady.
According to the police, the accused, Jahida Anwar Hafiz, performed the abortion on the victim, Salma Shaikh, 34, of Mumbra. However, Shaikh developed headaches and died at Nair Hospital on May 19, 2016.
The complainant in the case is sub-inspector Shravan Shinde who has mentioned a case of unintentional death used to be registered in 2016. The victim's tissues were sent for a clinical exam to JJ Hospital where a five- member team of medical doctors used to be formed to enter the case, the FIR mentioned.
Last month, the Mumbra police were given the committee file in keeping with which it registered an offence against the doctor. The doctor has been booked for culpable murder now not amounting murder and in addition for violation of the abortion laws.
Inspector RB Valatkar stated, "We have issued a notice to the accused doctor and we will record her statement first. The accused has claimed she did not conduct the abortion."
The deceased's husband, Shabir Shaikh, 34, who works as an AC mechanic, has 5 kids to look after now. "I have been following the case for the past three years and I used to be made to run from pillar to publish for justice for my wife.
After three years they have registered an offence, but there has been no action against the accused doctor." Mumbra police have registered offences beneath sections 304A, and 420 of the IPC and in addition beneath segment 5 of the Medical Abortion Act.
