HUBBALLI: Encroachment of footpaths is not anything new in Hubballi. Despite several attempts by police and civic government to clear the footpaths, the problem stays unsolved.
Now, long stretches of footpaths in entrance of Hubballi Dharwad Municipal Corporation place of work have been encroached by cars for parking purposes, that too by the visitors of HDMC. Many are parking their two-wheelers haphazardly at the footpath proper in entrance of HDMC.
Though the commissioner and all other senior officers use the same road, they don't hassle to take any action. It could also be affecting easy motion of visitors.
Dr Pandurang Patil, former mayor, mentioned there is no management in any respect in HDMC. It is unlucky to hear that for four days, cars are being parked in entrance of the entrance gate and in addition at the footpath. Officials must take a serious look into it and take appropriate action, he mentioned.
Those who talk over with HDMC park their cars at the footpaths, on account of which pedestrians use roads to achieve their destination. Two-wheelers and even automobiles regularly park fearlessly at the footpath.
A safety guard at the front gate of HDMC mentioned he was discovering it tricky to persuade folks to not park on footpaths or in entrance of front gate. "Some construction work is under process at the entrance gate and we are requesting motorists to use other gate (exit way), but the people, instead using the alternative gate, park their vehicles in front of the entrance gate itself," he mentioned.
S M Sandigwad, ACP, visitors, mentioned soon after the problem related to parking of cars on footpaths came to his notice, he had requested concerned officers to begin action. Since Wednesday, cars parked at the footpaths have been taken to police station. Even on Thursday, many motorcycles were seized for parking on footpath, he added.
S C Bewoor, PRO, HDMC, mentioned that for time being, cars are barred from coming into throughout the front gate due to gate installation paintings. Everything will be settled in 2-3 days. When requested concerning the inconvenience to pedestrians, he mentioned he had already requested safety persons to not permit cars to park on footpaths.
