Walk to save girl child held at Sukhna Lake

CHANDIGARH: The Chandigarh bankruptcy of Indian Radiological Imaging Association (IRIA) on Sunday organised a stroll - Rakshathon - devoted to saving girl child at Sukhna Lake. As many as 100 Tricity citizens actively participated in the tournament and supported the noble motive.

Suman Setia, the president of IRIA, Chandigarh, stated, "The aim of the project was to uplift girl child and spread awareness among people regarding the consequences of female foeticide. Today, people need to change their mindset towards women and abstain from suppressing them."


Parul Nakai, a 20-year-old resident, stated, "Such events are crucial to raise awareness. The situation in cities may look okay, however, in rural areas the rate of female foeticide is alarmingly high."


"The aim of the walk is to make people change their attitude towards girl child and highlight lack of safety for women at workplace and home," stated Dr Sandhya Dhankar, a radiologist and a facilitator of Raksha venture.


She stated that it was once a misconception that people who belong to decrease strata of society are the only ones who opt for sex-specific abortions. "Even educated people promote this practice," Dhankar added.


Madhu Nagpal, a member of a financial, emotional and consciousness improve crew, stated that it was once common to find deserted foetuses. "Such walks must be organised as frequently as possible, for these highlight the wrongs in the society," he stated.
