MOHALI: A priest used to be arrested after he used to be found carrying 13 live cartridges at the Chandigarh international airport on Saturday.
The accused is Gulam Haider Ali Quadri, a Barnalabased priest and spiritual guru, airport police station house officer inspector Baljeet Singh said. He used to be heading to Kolkata. While passing in the course of the departure scanning section, the CISF detected ammunition in the luggage and detained the priest. On checking the baggage, CISF and police recovered 13 live cartridges of .32 bore revolver.
Inspector Baljeet Singh said the priest claimed he has a licensed revolver which has been deposited with police owing to the style code of behavior and the cartridges have been mistakenly left in his luggage. Police said his weapon licence story used to be verified. Inspector Baljeet said, “Though his weapon is licensed, he had no documentary evidence to toughen carrying ammunition in luggage.” A courtroom remanded him in 14-day judicial custody and despatched him to Patiala prison.
