CHENNAI: Suburban commuters in and around Chennai can be expecting an immediate teach connecting Chennai Beach with Arakkonam and Chengalpet in 10 days.
Highly placed assets informed IdealNews that Southern Railway is likely to get started round suburban teach services connecting Arakkonam and Chengalpet in 10 days.
The proposal for operating one 12-car EMU and one MEMU service at the route is mendacity with the general manager, the assets stated. They declined to come back on report as the fashion code of conduct is in place.
This has been made conceivable since the Southern Railway has completed linking the Arakkonam-Takkolam detour line to the Arakkonam-Jolarpet primary line. A five-day lengthy non-interlocking block was taken between April 11 and 15 when many mail and specific and suburban trains were cancelled for the commissioning work.
However, round suburban services cannot be introduced in the railway timetable till the fashion code of conduct is in place, the assets stated. “Hence, we will be operating specials now. They will likely be regularised after the election results are out on May 23,” a source stated.
Currently, suburban services at the southern line from Chennai Beach run as much as Chengalpet and Tirumalpur. Though there is a additional hyperlink to Arakkonam, the phase is non-electrified due to objection from the naval base INS Rajali.
The ministry of defence contributed Rs 60 crore for a detour electrified line between Takkolam and Arakkonam, which was completed and commissioned lately.
The Railway Board has already approved SR’s proposal to run two round suburban teach services. The approval came two and a half hours prior to the fashion code of conduct came into play on March 10.
There are hundreds of people that have to move between suburbs at the south-western line (Chennai-Tiruvallur-Arakkonam) and the ones at the south-broad gauge line (Chennai-Tambaram-Chengalpet). They are unable to do so and have to take the circuitous route through Chennai Beach or have to rely on buses or share automobiles.
Circular services which will immediately hyperlink these two lines during the shorter Chengalpet-Arakkonam phase will come as a boon. It can even lead to faster development of the areas in Vellore and Kancheepuram districts linked through the brand new line, stated officers.
