TIRUPUR: Farmers and assistant engineers of the general public works division (PWD) have urged the district management to arrest an AIADMK functionary for issuing life danger to PWD authorities whilst they had been regulating irrigation underneath the Parambikulam Aliyar Project (PAP).
More than 500 farmers laid a siege to the collectorate in the town on Monday condemning the police division for failing to arrest the accused.
With zone IV of PAP irrigation scheme has its due this season, which would receive advantages round 1 lakh acres, PWD has opened 5th spell of water for the zone on April 17. Since farmers who've land in tail-end of the scheme had been continuously complaining that the water did not reach as scheduled, PWD Kundadam AE Balasubramanian inspected Kundadam PAP branch canal on April 12.
AE Balasubramanian and sluice operators, together with farmers, found that many farmers have illegally erected pipes in the canals in numerous puts and stole water, critically affecting the tail-end farmers. So, the PWD workforce marked spots where the pipes had been fixed illegally. Gokulakrishnan, an AIADMK functionary, of Rudravathi intimidated Balasubramanian and issued life danger to him, a police officer mentioned.
“Gokulakrishnan and his pals threatened the AE. After we lodged a grievance against him, Kundadam AE used to be attacked through unidentified other people at the same night time on April 12. We suspect that Gokulakrishnan used to be in the back of the attack. PWD employees are in concern that they had been being targeted for discharging tasks,” D Rajan, secretary, PWD (WRO) Assistant Engineers’ Association, Pollachi circle, mentioned.
