TIRUPUR: Four staff from Assam died of asphyxiation while cleansing an effluent tank in a textile washing unit in Tirupur in Tamil Nadu on Sunday.
The deceased have been recognized as Dilwar Hossain, 22, Farooq Ahmed, 21, Anwar Hossain, 23, and Abu, 20. They have been working in a washing unit owned by Jayakumar at Karuppagoundenpalayam in the city.
The unit, which washes fabrics and completed garments, has a 20-foot-deep tank to store effluent.
The 4 men have been asked to scrub the tank, which had not been cleaned for no less than five years.
One of them entered the tank first. He suffered suffocation, and others attempted to save him.
Three of them died at the spot while Dilwar died in Tirupur Government Hospital.
Police officials and Tirupur earnings divisional officer performed investigations.
The unit proprietor was more likely to be booked, a police officer mentioned.
