The petitioner, Jesmin Begum, had lodged an FIR with Rangia police on January 13, alleging that her husband had pronounced triple talaq in written form, talaq-e-biddat - a penal offence below Section 4 of the Muslim Women (Protection) of Rights on Marriage Ordinance, 2018, made non-bailable below Section 7 of the ordinance.


The police had, as an alternative, registered a case of husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty below Section 498 A of IPC.
