K'taka: 4 cops shifted for pro-coalition bias

BENGALURU: Four police officers including an assistant police commissioner (ACP) who have been accused of operating for Congress-JD(S) candidates on this Lok Sabha elections have been transferred on Tuesday.


According to sources, the Election Commission took the action at the basis of the findings of an inquiry performed by IGP, Railways and the regional commissioner. Earlier, in an unprecedented construction, the Election Commission had entrusted the investigation in the matter to the IGP railways after it didn't get suitable response from the highest brass of the state police.

The police officers who have been transferred have been Ravi Prasad P, ACP, Yeshwantpur sub-division; V T Srinivasa, Police Inspector (PI) of Peenya, Shivareddy V, PI of Jnanabharati and Mudduraj Y, PI Yeshwanthpura police station.

Ravi and Srinivas have been transferred to CID. Shivareddy was transferred to the state intelligence, whilst Mudduraj was despatched to the Internal Security Division (ISD).


The move comes after IGP (railways) D Roopa and Shivayogi Kalasad, regional commissioner performed a joint inquiry after the BJP filed a grievance with the Election Commission. Sources mentioned the move came after the state police didn't trouble to act at the lawsuits raised by EC and honest probe was not reportedly performed.


Sources in the EC mentioned the BJP complained that the accused officials steadily accompanied the Congress-JD(S) candidate in Bengaluru during campaigning at the pretext of maintaining regulation and order, which in flip, was influencing the electorate. The officials wore their uniform with ranks, stars and badges and the BJP also shared with the EC photographs of the police officers at the campaigning.


Also, the officers allegedly didn't entertain the lawsuits filed by BJP against violations of Model Code of Conduct however would promptly book BJP staff and leaders at the slightest excuse. The BJP also alleged that more than one circumstances have been registered against BJP staff at the behest of Ravi Prasad however the grievance details have been never probed.


In the document, the investigating officials mentioned that the 4 officials have been biased and really useful their substitute by impartial officials, particularly during election time.
