VADODARA: With stringent checking in place for Lok Sabha polls, bootleggers are devising new ways to smuggle in liquor.
The detection of crime department (DCB) sleuths have been stumped on Sunday when they raided a spot in Sama area on receiving a tip-off. The bootleggers had hidden liquor bottles inside four big barrels full of pickle.
“We have been stunned after we reached at the spot. Three people have been doing away with liquor bottles from the barrels full of pickle. We nabbed them and seized the bottles together with pickle inventory,” said Jaydeepsinh Jadeja, deputy commissioner of police (crime).
In all, 31 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) worth Rs 15,000 from the accused who have been doing away with the bottles from the pickle barrels at the house of Baljit in Radhe Krishna Apartments in Sama.
Police said that the trio identified as Baljit Raval, Vijay Parmar and Samir Thakore tried this solution to hide liquor for the second one time. They had earlier tried this technique and had succeeded.
Police said that the accused used to shop for liquor inventory from a bootlegger in Madhya Pradesh. “They used to bring the liquor inventory till the national highway outdoor town in a public shipping bus. Then they used to slip within the liquor bottles within the barrels full of pickle. The police scans automobiles and passengers’ assets but nobody usually exams barrels full of pickle from inside of,” Jadeja advised TOI.
Interestingly, the accused are also within the trade of supplying pickle in wholesale to the restaurants. Police said that they used to do bootlegging as an aspect trade and that’s how they got the idea of hiding liquor inventory in pickle barrels.
“We have arrested big bootleggers and crackdown on the liquor community within the city over previous couple of months after which the liquor supply has virtually dried up. Prices of liquor have shot up such a lot that the accused thought of incomes some extra money by using this new technique,” Jadeja said.
