Man arrested for EVM 'malfunction' claim

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A 21-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday after his claim of EVM malfunction turned out to be false. Ebin Babu has alleged that he had voted for a specific candidate at a sales space in Kendriya Vidyalaya School, Pattom, however the EVM showed the vote went to another candidate.


After Ebin's grievance, the presiding officer on the polling station offered him to document a check vote, however no fault was detected following he was arrested. He was booked below segment 177 of the IPC (furnishing false information).


"Laws related to recording test vote stipulate that if the claim is found to be false, the voter would have to face legal action," mentioned Subhash Kumar, SHO Medical College.
