Masakalipalayam Road a nightmare for motorists

Coimbatore: Masakalipalayam Road, which connects Avinashi Road and G V Residency, is riddled with potholes.
TOI discovered 50 potholes at the 2.4km stretch, one each and every 50m.

The stretch is becoming unmotorable as the size and depth of the potholes stay increasing because of continuous vehicular motion, said R Lalitha, a standard commuter. “I've been using the road to succeed in my place of business at Tidel Park from Ukkadam as Avinashi Road is generally congested all over the peak hours. It were given a generous coat of bitumen remaining year, due to the town corporation. But within months, corporation employees dug it as much as lay pipelines for the underground drainage (UGD) project and our ordeal started,” she said.

The condition of the road changed into in reality dangerous after the UGD work began and the corporation carried out patchwork simplest after the locals protested, said S Shivaraman, a shopkeeper. “Two contractors had been focused on doing the patchwork. But none of them had been ready to repair a large pothole opposite to the corporation middle school. They blamed each and every different for now not solving it. It is tricky for motorists to identify the potholes at night as many of the streetlights at the stretch do not work. As a consequence, a minimum of one two-wheeler customers fall at the road every day. Corporation officers neglected our repeated pleas to repair the potholes.”

Dust emanating from the road is some other giant concern, said some other shopkeeper. “People must stay doors and windows shut to push back the mud this is generated when vehicles pass,” she said.

Meanwhile, a senior corporation professional assured to seem into the problem.
