'PM thief' slur: SuMo moves court against Rahul

PATNA: Bihar’s deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi (SuMo) on Thursday filed a felony complaint case for defamation in the Patna CJM court in the hunt for punishment towards Congress president Rahul Gandhi for his alleged observation that why all the thieves have Modi surname.

“I've a query … Why all the thieves have ‘Modi’ in their names whether or not be it Nirav Modi, Lalit Modi and Narendra Modi … We don’t know the way many more such Modis will pop out…,” Rahul had said during his election speech at Kolar in Karnataka on April 13.


SuMo has quoted Rahul’s speech in his petition filed underneath Sections 499 (defamation) and 500 (which has provision of simple imprisonment to the utmost two years or superb or both) of IPC.


The deputy CM alleged that after he reached the celebration place of job the following day, a number of people mocked and laughed at him as they'd read Rahul’s observation in newspapers and heard it on TV channels. SuMo has made BJP MLAs Sanjeev Chaurasia and Nitin Naveen besides Suman Kumar Jha and Manish Kumar Singh as witnesses in the case. He said Chaurasia and Naveen were witness to the incident at the celebration place of job. He has also discussed that the video clip of Rahul’s speech was to be had on YouTube and have been watched by a huge rely of viewers.


On Monday, the Supreme Court served a notice to Rahul for his alleged reference that even the apex court had authorised that ‘chowkidar’ (regarding PM Narendra Modi) had committed robbery in the Rafael deal. The comment was made after the SC had authorised a petition to review its Rafael deal judgement. The apex court noticed that it had by no means said the sort of factor.
