PWD forms team to carry out safety audit of new roads

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Following the instruction of Supreme Court committee on highway protection, the state public works division (PWD) has made it mandatory to behavior 3rd birthday celebration highway protection audit for brand new roads which are 5km or extra long.

The PWD has also constituted an in-house staff for a similar. Around 12 engineers had been given coaching in highway protection via the Central Roads Research Institute (CRRI).


As in line with the federal government order of 2016, the 3rd birthday celebration audit at design stage and advice of design stage auditor have been mandatory for development costing above Rs 10 crore. In September final 12 months, the panel had issued a set of tips where it discussed that highway protection audit will have to be made mandatory for all new roads 5 km or longer, quite than in accordance with undertaking price.


Following this, the executive engineer (roads), in a letter, requested for changed orders, which were sanctioned not too long ago. Chief engineer M N Jeevaraj said that highway protection measures would range on every highway relying on its location. ''We will make sure that there are required highway markings, measure for visitors calming and reducing black spots," he said.
