Special court nixes Prajapati's bail plea in gangrape case

ALLAHABAD: Special court docket (MP and MLA) on Friday rejected the bail application of former UP cabinet minister Gayatri Prasad Prajapati in a gang rape case by which he is the main accused.
Rejecting the bail application of Prajapati, special judge Pawan Kumar Tiwari stated that the petitioner is the main accused in the topic. “The proof of a few witnesses are still to be taken up. The petitioner might affect the trial. Hence, taking into the gravity of the offence, the bail can't be granted to him,” the court docket added.

District executive recommend (criminal) Gulab Chandra Agrahri stated that earlier at one stage all the way through the trial court cases, the cross-examination of the survivor lady had taken place. The proof of alternative witnesses would even be taken up all the way through the course of trial, he added.

Earlier, a special POCSO court docket had framed fees towards Prajapati and 6 different co-accused in the gang rape case. The court docket had charged Gayatri and co-accused Vikas, Ashish, Ashok Amrendra, Chandrapal and Rupeshwar beneath sections 376 (D), 354A(1), 509, 504 and 506 of IPC. Gayatri, Vikas, Ashish and Ashok have also been charged beneath segment 5(G) learn with segment 6 of the POSCO Act.


The lady had lodged an FIR with Gautampalli police of Lucknow on February 18, 2017, at the route of the Supreme Court. Later, the investigating officer filed a chargesheet towards the accused individuals, including Prajapati.
