Sweeper slips into lift shaft, crashes to death

HYDERABAD: In what can be a case of elevate malfunctioning, a sweeper fell to her demise in a boost shaft in a five-storeyed business building in Himayatnagar on Thursday. Okay Rekha (45), a resident of Ziaguda, was once running in Lakshmi Vivantha Girls Hostel on Telugu Academy Road.
On the idea that the elevate had come up to the fifth floor where she was once ready, Rekha opened the outer grille and stepped in to the shaft. However, she stepped into the hole area and got here crashing down at the elevate, which was once stationed on first floor. “She suffered fractures on each her legs and was once shifted to Osmania General Hospital where she succumbed while present process treatment,” Narayanguda SI Okay Saidulu told TOI.

The building houses a car showroom at the first and second flooring, women hostel on 3rd, fourth and fifth flooring.


Police fetched some technical professionals, who showed that the elevate was once malfunctioning. Ideally, the outer grille unlocks and slides only when the elevate reaches a selected floor. But, due to alleged malfunctioning, when Rekha pulled the outer grille it all started to slide. It is, on the other hand, no longer clear how Rekha had failed to note the lacking elevate and stepped into the hole space.


When cops puzzled the occupants of the building on how Rekha was once introduced out, they stated the elevate was once manually adjusted by one of them who had some knowledge about functioning of lifts. “When she fell with a thud and shrieked in ache, inmates rushed to assist her,” a cop stated.


A case was once registered under Section 304-A (negligence causing demise) of IPC against building proprietor Harish and building affiliation caretaker Siva.
