Tusker tramples five, including four of a family, to death in Odisha's Angul

TALCHER: A rampaging tusker killed 5 people, together with two girls, two ladies aged 4 and 12, in two villages close to Talcher in Angul district early on Friday morning.

The tusker reportedly stormed a area at Sandha Gaon village first and crushed 4 to demise at the spot. The deceased incorporated two ladies and their oldsters.


"The family was asleep when the tusker attacked them," Trilochan Behera, ranger, Talcher forest vary instructed TOI.

Later the similar tusker at Santhapada, a neighbouring village, killed a 70-year-old man identified as Banambar Samal.

The other deceased are a 40-year-old, the daddy of the two deceased ladies and a 25-year-old girl of the circle of relatives.

The forest officer said the tusker had strayed from its herd. The tusker reportedly left the realm quickly after the attack, in line with the forest officers.


Behera said, "The tusker probably had crossed the Brahmani river at night from Dhenkanal side. We have kept a vigil on the tusker."


The deceased will get monetary help in line with the foundations of the government," he added.


Following the mishap, irate villagers staged street blockade alleging that the Forest Department has now not taken any good enough step at the same time as 5 persons had been killed in elephant attack. After the forest department officers promised to look into demands of people the placement in now standard within the house.
