CR: Siemens rakes to replace retro-fitted trains

Lakhs of commuters on the Harbour Line will enjoy a clean journey this monsoon because the Central Railway (CR) is ready to do away with outdated retrofitted rakes, replacing them with extra dependable Siemens rakes.

When the tracks flood all over the monsoons, retrofitted rakes – trains that previous operated on a right away current (DC), but have been modified to paintings on an alternating current (AC) – would steadily damage down because the floodwater entered their motors.

“It was simply no longer imaginable to operate those trains on the tracks even with somewhat flooding, as they would come to a standstill. Repairing them in the automobile shed was also very tricky,” a CR professional mentioned.

However, CR is now anticipating the arriving of 3 Bombardier rakes, of which one has already arrived, whilst any other two are anticipated in 15 days. These three rakes will probably be inducted in the main CR line, and the Siemens rakes will then be sent on the Harbour Line, replacing the retrofitted rakes.

“Before monsoons set in, we will be able to pull out all four retrofitted rakes. With the Siemens rakes, trains can be operated on flooded tracks without too many problems,” an professional mentioned.

There are 40 rakes on the Harbour Line, 36 of which can be Siemens, whilst four are retrofitted rakes. A complete of 612 services and products are run on the CR Harbour Line the use of those 40 rakes.
