HYDERABAD: The Medical Council of India (MCI) has authorized five medical colleges with 150 seats each in the state of Telangana. Among them are the Nalgonda medical college and the Suryapet medical college in the government sector and in the private sector - Patnam Mahender Reddy college Chevella, Mamata Medical College Bachupally and Surabhi Medical college Siddipet had been authorized.
With the new approvals coming in the general seats in the 10 government medical colleges in the state and the 22 private medical colleges is now 4600. Of those 1550 seats are in government colleges while the 3050 are in private colleges.
While the MCI's approval used to be sought by the state government for starting MBBS courses at Suryapet and Nalgonda medical colleges for the academic year 2019-2020, the two were previously sanctioned by the well being department. The addition of seats might be a boon for meritorious scholars who can not come up with the money for to pay the costs of personal colleges, even as the selection of seats in the private medical colleges has increased too.
