Biomedical Engineering new entrant, taking the whole selection of subjects to 25
According to the rotational development followed by means of the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), the 2020 examination might be performed by means of IIT-Delhi. The applications for 2020 exams are anticipated to begin from September onwards.
This 12 months, Biomedical Engineering has been presented as probably the most core Engineering subjects. This will open the gates for college students meaning to make a foray within the field.
The examination which used to be earlier performed by means of IIT Madras this 12 months, comprised of questions on normal flair, engineering arithmetic and core engineering topic of the candidate. In GATE 2019, applicants could appear for most effective probably the most 24 subjects in areas equivalent to Mathematics, Aerospace Engineering, Biotechnology, Agricultural Engineering, Architecture and Planning, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, to call a few, for admission to the IITs, NITs and Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs). "With the introduction of Biomedical Engineering, the number of subjects at GATE will increase to 25," says GATE chairman BR Chahar.
While round 9.29 lakh applicants had appeared for the examination in 2019, they were a tad higher in 2018 where the figures were up by means of 63,000.
Though the IITs play a key position in accomplishing the exam apart from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, there is a belief that the IITians do not evince much pastime in showing for the examination. However, going by means of fresh trends, three toppers in GATE 2019 were from IIT Delhi.
"Since MTech is not a necessary prerequisite for PhD programmes these days, many of our students directly opt for PhD programme under the Prime Minister's Research Fellowship (PMRF) scheme where they are also entitled to scholarship worth Rs 70,000/month for the first two years. Around 4% of our students seek overseas opportunities while a certain percentage enrol for MBAs or join private organisations such as Microsoft, Google etc through campus placements. Since PSUs (which use GATE scores for selecting graduate engineers at entry-level positions) do not conduct campus placements, only a small percentage of IITians seek job opportunities in these sectors. GATE has therefore emerged as an upgradation for non-IITians," says V Ramgopal Rao, IIT Delhi director.
