Foreign minister S Jaishankar on Thursday drew a comparability between the two regional groups SAARC and BIMSTEC, explaining that the former has "certain problems" whilst the latter has "possibility". BIMSTEC member states have been invited for the grand swearing-in ceremony in line with India's center of attention on the "Neighbourhood First" policy, whilst SAARC leaders were not invited, it appears to keep Pakistan out.
