NEW DELHI: Amid rising airfares, flying from July 1 will mean doling out Rs 20 to 115 more for safety too. The executive has hiked passenger safety rate (PSF) of domestic departing flyers from Rs 130 to Rs 150. For global departures, PSF will likely be raised from $3.25 to $four.85 -- a hike of about Rs 112 (calculating at change fee of Rs 70 to $1). The new charges, called aviation safety rate (ASF), will likely be appropriate from July 1.
“The above charges of ASF (Rs 70 and $four.85) will likely be appropriate from 00.01 hours of July 1, 2019, and will change PSF,” says an order issued by aviation ministry JS Usha Padhee.
The factor of hike in PSF have been pending for several months now as the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which provides safety deployment at 61 airports, faced mounting dues from several airports -- particularly the PPP metro ones. All airport operators had clearly said the PSF of Rs 130 determined years in the past is inadequate to meet CISF deployment expenses. Last July, airports owed CISF about Rs 1,000 crore, with Delhi Airport having the lion’s proportion on this.
Modi-I executive had formed a panel to review the airport operators’ demand and has now taken a choice. Growing air trip and opening of recent airports and terminals will mean nearly 20,030 personnel will likely be required at those places, leading to CISF incurring upper expenses and definitely in no position to attend endlessly to get fee for safety deployment.
CISF is also looking at ways to supply cost-effective safety cover at the small airports that may get regional connectivity scheme (RCS) flights. Instead of an airport-centric focal point at other places, it is analyzing an aircraft-centric safety cover for RCS airports which could lend a hand cut costs for airport operators.
