GST Council extends annual returns filing date

NEW DELHI: The all-powerful GST Council on Friday prolonged the tenure of the anti-profiteering authority through two years and licensed enforcing a penalty of as much as 10 per cent on entities not passing on benefits of GST charge cuts to customers.

Briefing journalists after the 35th meeting of the Council, revenue secretary A B Pandey mentioned it has been made up our minds to allow using Aadhaar through businesses to check in with GST-Network.


Also, it prolonged the date for submitting annual returns below the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime through two months to August 30, he mentioned, adding the one-form new GST return submitting device shall be acceptable from January 1, 2020.

The Council, which is headed through the Union finance minister and accommodates representatives of all states and UTs, also licensed an electronic invoicing device and e-ticketing in multiplexes.

Pandey mentioned the proposal to cut back GST charge on EVs to 5 per cent from the present 12 per cent and that on electrical charger to 12 per cent from 18 per cent to the fitment committee for fantastic tuning.


The tenure of National Anti-Profiteering Authority (NAA) has been prolonged through two years until November 30, 2021.


Soon after the GST was rolled out from July 1, 2017, the federal government had licensed putting in place the NAA for 2 years to deal with lawsuits through customers in opposition to corporations for not passing on GST charge cut benefits.


The NAA got here into life on November 30, 2017, after its chairman B N Sharma assumed price. So a long way, the NAA has passed 67 orders in various circumstances and lawsuits still keep coming in.
